  • Northern Coal Enterprise:

After the Karkar and Dodkash coal mines were  discovered in Pole Khomri (the center of Baghlan province), the Coal Mines Branch of the Ministry of Mines was set up to explore and develop the coal resources in the area. The Coal Mining branch had 30 employees, 111 officials, 1667 contractors and 5 foreign experts from Czechoslovakia.
The Branch was legally transformed to a governmental enterprise in 1350.
In accordance with the national development strategy and government policy to encourage private sector led investments the Karkar and Dodkash coal mines was privatized in 1385 with 309 employees and started as a commercial enterprise in 1386.

  • Kude Barq fertilizer and power plant:

This enterprise is to produce Urea and thermal electricity.
The urea factory was set up in 1345 and Kude Barq in 1346, with the productive capacity of 48 MW of electricity.  Electricity generation commenced at the beginning of 1350 and the urea plant in 1353 with a productive capacity of 105,000 tons per year with 2900 employees and 450 foreign experts.
The complex was restructured to a governmental enterprise in 1356 with 2.17 million Afs of operating capital. Currently this enterprise has 963 officials and 1512 labourers and is producing urea and thermal electricity.     

  • Afghan Gas Enterprise:

Afghan Gas Enterprise explores develops, produces, processes and distributes natural gas to downstream users.
Afghan gas Enterprise was established in 1346 after the natural gas was explored and discovered. The enterprise was established with 72 officials, 421 hired workers and 119 foreign experts and was the second division of the Ministry of Mines.
The Khwaja Gogerdak structures have two gathering points, gas gathering point no (1) has 39 and gathering point no (2) has 22 producing gas wells respectively.  Production and processing of gas commenced in 1346 from the 17th well from the second production and gas network. The gas was exported to the Soviet Union.


Main installation:
-  Khwaja Gogerdak refinery installation contains 2 gas production and gas gathering networks.
-  Jarqadoq and Yatim Taq refinery installations.
-  Khwaja Gogerdak pipeline to Keleft is 9x820 mm diameter and 100 km long.
-  Khwaja Gogerdak pipeline to Kude Barq fertilizer is 9x720 mm diameter and 89.1 km long.
-  Khwaja Gogerdak pipeline to Jarqadoq is 9x720 mm diameter and 28.7 km long.
-Kude Barq pipeline to Balkh cotton factory is 4x418 mm diameter and 28.7 long.
-  Keleft airway trench on Amu River is 9x820 mm diameter which contains 660 m long, 96m height, and 2,5m court.

When the Afghan Gas enterprise was legally transformed to a governmental enterprise in 1363. It had 14.374 billion Afs capital (13.344 billion of fixed property and 1.031 billion of operating capital) and 1291 employees (254 officials, 1037 contractors (and 229 foreign experts.
Now it has 1088 employees containing 332 officials and 756 hired workers and is working on productive activities.

  • Engineering and Hydro-geological Investigations Enterprise:

The Engineering and Hydro-geological Investigations Enterprise was set up in 1360 within the Ministry of Mines. This enterprise has undertaken some large investigation projects in the last 25 years involving of modern equipment and experts. Due to the Minister of Mines attention to scientific and skilled investigational projects in beneficiating minerals, underground water and geo-techniques, this enterprise is still intact  and has the capability to undertake geotechnical and hydro-geological investigations projects and public utility activities with modern equipment.

Principal duties in geo-engineering:
This enterprise undertakes geo- technical engineering investigations to test the suitability of the land in urban and industrial building areas. 

A. Principal duties in Hydro-geology:
1-  Hydro-geological investigation on the Chelsoton water station.
2-  Hydro-geological investigation on the water station north of Kabul.
3-  Hydro-geological mapping of the deeper sections of the Kabul basin and    Darul-Aman at a scale of 1:25000.
4-  Hydro-geological study of Pule Khomri city.
5-  Hydro-geological study of Sheberghan city.
6-  Hydro-geological study of Mazare Sharif - 10% completed.
7-  Hydro-geological study of Aynak copper deposits.
8-  Drilling of hundreds of water wells in Kabul and other provinces for public utility.  

B- Principal duties in Geo-engineering:
1-  Geo-engineering investigation in Aynak copper deposits.
2-  Geo-engineering mapping of Kabul city at a scale of 1:25000.
3-  Geo-engineering investigation of Hairatan port city.
4-  Geo-engineering investigation of Balkh University.
5-  Geo-engineering investigation of Chamber of Commerce (multi story building).
6-  Geo-engineering affairs of Makrorayans.
7-  Geo-engineering investigation of Bayazid Roshan University and other projects.

Current abilities of this enterprise:

A. In hydro-geology section:
1-  Drilling of production wells for water.
2-  Drilling of investigational wells.
3-  Clean and pump test the wells.
4-  Analyze chemical and bacteriological the water.
5-  Hydro-geological investigation including research, exploration and to calculate the underground water storage.

B. In Geo-engineering section:
1-  Soil testing of the areas prior to construction.
2-  Local and laboratorial geo-technical investigation.
3-  Preparation and codification of geo-technical reports of specified areas.
